Style Icons: Anna Wintour, the magnificence itself

Anna Wintour was born on November 2, 1949 in London. Chief Editor of the American edition of Vogue , held the post since 1988, where he has since come to be in a real fashion icon and one of the most influential people in the industry.

His father, Charles Vere Wintour, former editor of the British newspaper "The Evening Standart". His mother was the first wife of Charles Wintour, Eleanor ("Nonie") Trego Baker, daughter of a Harvard law professor. They were married thirty-nine years. His stepmother is Audrey Slaughter, editor of magazines such as Honey and Petticoat among others. Anna has four siblings, who are engaged in occupations that have nothing to do with the fashion world. Her daughter graduated from Columbia and said not to be as editor of Vogue, and in the fashion world. Now Fanny Wintour Valley (named in the scene), inevitably is a fashion icon. It also has a son, Charles Sheffer.

Anna Wintour attended the Collegiate School North. He began to comb his hair style "bob" at age fourteen, when it was not even a. He left school at 16, and I choose not to go to college so he started a course at the London department store Harrods. For orders of their parents took fashion classes at a nearby school, but left quickly. Ana said, "or you know fashion or not."

Activity fashion journalism in 1970 when Harper's Bazaar merged with Queen magazine, to become for a time in Harper's & Queen. There Anna, made great innovative work, recreating works by Renoir and Manet with models with go-go boots. After a brief job at a small magazine called Savvy, in 1975, Anna worked as a fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar in New York, where he was less than a year. Later, he went to New York magazine as fashion editor. He became editor of British Vogue in 1986 and a year later editor of House & Garden.

Anna finally got the position of Managing Editor of Vogue U.S. in 1988. Under his predecessor, Grace Mirabella, Wintour left his mark instantly with a change in the cover photographs. He used models and mixed unfamiliar face couture clothing. Also request that photographers, makeup artists and stylists appeared in the credits of the pictures as the models. Under his leadership, the magazine renewed its focus on fashion and resurfaced as when its director was DianaVrreland .

The September 2007 issue contained the record of 832 printed pages, the greater number of leaves that had been done before. This number is made the documentary "The September Issue". Development also creating three alternative publications to his magazine: Teen Vogue, Vogue Living and Men's Vogue. His success in expanding the Vogue brand earned him the title of Editor of the Year by AdAge magazine.

Anna Wintour has become one of the world's most powerful people in fashion, setting trends and consecrating new designers like John Galliano and Marc Jacobs. His salary is estimated at five million dollars a year.

Despite his reputation for cold woman. Anna is an active philanthropy. It trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Founded CFDA / Vogue, to encourage and support unknown designers. He has also raised more than $ 10 million to organizations that help AIDS patients by organizing fundraising events.

In 2003 his assistant, Lauren Weisberger novel published his successful key ("roman à clef") The Devil Wear Prada. That according to Miranda Priestley say his antagonist in the film, was based on Anna. Anna said that the movie that had seemed quite entertaining and praised her for making fashion "entertaining and glamorous and interesting."

Some critics have accused because celebrities and models are the cover of Vogue. In fact, several famous women have occupied the cover of Vogue under the direction of Anna, from Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Blake Lively or the very Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama last year.

Rarely, if ever made, Anna responds to criticism against it, because most of his critics have been employees or people who have something to gain from being on good terms with her. But there have been defenses elsewhere, Amanda Fortini, in Slate magazine, said she had no problem with the elitism of Ana, because this was intrinsic to fashion and ultimately good for the readers of the magazine. This conclusion is entirely true, since Anna has to defend the reputation of a brand. Always Vogue Vogue but much of the style, elegance and splendor has given Anna.

This year it has been named artistic director of Condé Nast. Anna should extend and develop a "creative vision" for Condé Nast (Vogue, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Glamour ...). Townseud (Condé Nast chief executive officer) has recognized that "will take advantage of the incredible vision and leadership of Anna". He has appeared in documentaries such as "The Semptember Issue" or "In Vogue" as well as "The Editor's Eye", still pending release.

Anna Wintour, a large female model, multifaceted, visionary, independent, generous and with a great sense of "know-how".

Anna deberá extender y desarrollar una "vision creativa" para Condé Nast (Vogue,The New Yorker,Vanity Fair,Glamour...).
